For those of you who have been following Design Fixation for a while, you probably know that the last few months I’ve spent a lot of my free time doing DIY projects for my wedding. Well, the big day finally arrived last week so I wanted to share just a few shots of the day.
We got married at All Souls Interfaith Gathering in Shelburne, Vermont, which is actually the town I grew up in. Rain was forecasted for the entire day, but we lucked out and had only one passing shower. We laughed, we cried, we danced and (everyone says it, but… ) we had the best day ever.
Our wedding cake was made by our caterer, and the fresh flowers were provided by our florist. I made the cake topper myself, and you can check out the tutorial here.
We did a sand ceremony during which we each poured sand into one container, representing two people becoming one. We each collected our own sand from our favorite beach in Marblehead, Massachusetts the week before. Our pastor joked that it looked like dirt 🙂
We made our own table runners using this fabric (with tons of help from my mother-in-law… thanks Priscilla!) and collected tons of clear glass vases for the flowers from Goodwill.
My dress had a champagne-colored underlay, and I had some of the back removed by my seamstress to turn it into a keyhole style. By the end of the night it was black at the bottom… the sign of a good time!
Mike and I hand-painted the place cards and then I used my newfound hand-lettering skills to write our guests’ names on the cards. And I just taped them to a couple of plain old pieces of wood from Home Depot.
And there were tissue paper tassels galore throughout the entire building. Stay tuned for more once we get our photos back from our professional photographer!
