If you’ve been following along with Design Fixation, you probably know that I’ve been knee-deep in decorating after buying a house in July. Well, I’ve finally finished a room! My home office. Click through to see the whole space, shopping sources, and to check out the horrid “before” photo.

Because it is the only room in the house that I had free reign over design-wise, I went crazy with shades of pink, magenta and pops of gold. Those colors just make me so happy. And although I tend to paint walls bright colors, there’s something about a crisp white that appealed to me for this space.
Home Office Tour... Before /// By Design Fixation
Here’s the terrible “before” photo. I took it when we toured the house, before we had made an offer. It was apparently used as a guest bedroom before (unless it was staged that way) but it makes so much more sense as a workspace. It’s on the first floor around the back side of the house, off of the living room.

Anyways.
I made the desk myself. I looked at about a million desks online, but nothing felt right… I really wanted a wide surface to spread out on. And visually I also like the look of a work surface spanning the entire width of the room. It took a lot of time and patience to make (and some power tools) but I love the way it turned out. The shiplap style makes me smile.

Sometimes I do projects on the table, but I chose white specifically because I also wanted to use it as a backdrop for all those tutorials I share over on Curbly and DIYs.com.

Rolling storage keeps my office supplies, lip balm, kleenex and other necessities hidden. This is the Helmer from IKEA. The pink organizer above is the Dokument Letter Tray, also from IKEA.

About 90% of the items in my office are DIY projects. Find out how to make your own PANTONE trash can here. And learn how to make your own watercolor weekly schedule here. I also sell the “bloggers gonna blog” print in my Etsy shop. Oh and I also lined the shelves with gold and white striped gift wrap… no tutorial for that though. Yet.

Air plants lend a bit of green life to the right side of my desk inside of a gold-edged glass display case that was given to us by Mike’s parents. Thanks Mr. and Mrs. P! The lamp is from Urban Outfitters.

The floating shelf is from IKEA too… you can find it here. It was surprisingly easy to mount on the wall. I sell the “makers gonna make” print in my Etsy shop… check it out here. And along with everybody else and their mother, I’m into pineapples. You can get this pineapple vase at CB2.

The table and chairs are from IKEA, surprise surprise, and the rug is from Beyond The Rack (but it looks like it’s no longer available).

I’m so happy with the way it turned out… it gives me plenty of space to be creative, and it still feels warm and inviting despite all the white. Thanks for visiting, and stay tuned for more room reveals soon!
UPDATE: Check out the new faux wallpaper I created for the wall above right here.
