An Unforgettable Trip To California

Stunning views at Ocean Beach in San Francisco.
A pretty view of the Golden Gate Bridge from the Presidio.
The Painted Ladies (i.e. the Full House house) were fun to see.
Gorgeous colors in Chinatown in San Francisco.
A little bird sang us a song at Muir Beach, on the way to Sonoma.
And the deer were just as interested in us as we were in them.
Onto wine country… here we are at Benziger, a biodynamic vineyard in Sonoma.
This is at the Darioush winery, in owner Darioush Khaledi’s
private cellar. It pays to have a boyfriend in the wine industry!

And here are the barrels of wine at Franciscan…
And the rows and rows and rows of grapes.

Last week I took my first trip to San Francisco and wine country… and it was a blast. It was the perfect mix of sightseeing, wine-drinking and outdoor adventures. We saw the (hundreds of) sea lions on the pier in San Fran, the Golden Gate bridge, and visited the hipster bars in the Mission district (including ABV where we randomly ran into John Gertsen, famous in Boston for tending bar at Drink and No. 9 Park). Then we headed up the coast where we stopped to take in the views at Muir Beach, ate some oysters at The Marshall Store, and did some shopping in some of the tiny seaside towns. Then onto the Benziger Winery, Cakebread, Darioush and Franciscan. And I had the best meal I’ve ever had at Bouchon… an out-of-this-world Salade Nicoise. It was an amazing trip – I highly recommend going if you’ve never been!
