Design Fixation: A Cinco De Mayo Bash

A Cinco De Mayo Bash

Today we have a special treat on Design Fixation - my good friend and hostess with the mostess Megan Flood shares her tips and tricks for throwing a stress-free Cinco de Mayo party! Take it away Megan....

Cinco de Mayo always seems like a great excuse to host a party (read: eat my weight in guacamole). To set the tone for the party, I had Faith design a festive paper invitation...

The day of the party, I set the mood with a latin inspired playlist on Pandora, festive flower arrangements, tea lights and mason jars spruced up with some washi tape, and a well stocked bar.

I planned an easy menu that would allow me to leave the kitchen and enjoy the party - chicken and shrimp tacos with a selection of dips, a cheese spread, and crudite. The key is to do as much prep as possible ahead of time, and also to accept a helping hand when guests offer. Odds are, they'd rather help fill the ice bucket than stand around awkwardly waiting for their friends to arrive.

I served coconut macaroons and mini key lime pies for dessert, but the real hit of the night was the lime shaped jello shots shown below. Head over here for the recipe.

It does take some extra time to plan these extra details, but your friends are sure to appreciate your efforts. Happy Cinco de Mayo to you, I hope your party is a big success!

*ALSO* I'm now selling the chevron food labels that Megan used above, shown at right. $1.99 will get you a printable PDF file with six pages of different colors. That way you can print out multiple copies of one page if you have an occasion for which you need only red cards, for example. Head over here to download them.
