Puma City

There’s still time, but you’ll have to hurry for your chance to experience the enjoyment that comes from a visit to the fleeting Puma City (affectionately known as “Pumacity,” one word, by those in the know). I initially visited the mobile Puma store, now located at Fan Pier in Boston, to admire its innovative architectural design. I quickly realized, however, that its true appeal was its fusion of social meeting place, merchandise hub, and ephemeral club scene.

Customers clutched drinks while browsing through Puma merchandise on the first two levels. Bostonians mingled, discussing the modern design of the structure. Energetic music thumped from the DJ booth on the third floor. A diverse crowd sipped vodka drinks on the deck overlooking the city. It isn’t your average club scene, its a new and creative type of nightlife experience brought to life by Puma’s chief marketing officer Antonio Bertone. Puma City is a tri-level, 11,000-square-foot Puma store, bar and event space made of 24 refurbished shipping containers. It is fully dis-mountable so it can be packed and shipped anywhere. The store was designed by architects LOT-EK, completed in September 2008. It is here in the city as part of the Volvo Ocean Race, a nine month yacht race around the world. Boston is the only U.S. city that the transportable store will visit, so this may be your only chance – it will stay at Fan Pier (off of Northern Ave.) through May 16th.
